Phuket’s
local dive sites offers diving for all experience
levels, from gentle slops with calm conditions for
the beginner to wreck and deep dives for the more
adventurous diver.
Racha
Yay
Racha Yay, located South of Phuket is reached within
1½ hour by boat. For training or easy, relaxed
diving, Racha Yay is the perfect choice with its
gentle slope and calm conditions. On the east side
stag horn coral is predominate, while rocks and
boulders are more common on the west side.
Racha Noi
An additional 30 minutes South and you reach Racha
Noi and some thrilling dive sites for the more experienced
diver. Surrounding deep water and sometimes strong
current attracts bigger pelagic marine life such
as manta rays, eagle rays, barracudas and big groupers.
Shark Point
Shark Point, located 1½ hrs east
of Phuket, consists of three submerged reefs within
swimming distance. This great dive site offers a
variety of marine life. The name comes from the
gentle bottom dwelling leopard shark which is common
in the area, other marine life often seen are moray
eels, octopus, schools of sweet lips and trevallies.
Anemone
Reef
A beautiful dive site, located only a short distance
North of Shark Point. As the name indicates, the
reef is covered with sea anemones and colorful soft
corals. Schools of snappers, barracudas and fusiliers
are hovering over the reef and leopard sharks are
often found resting at the sand bottom.
King Cruiser
On May 4th, 1997 the 85 meter passenger ferry ”King
Cruiser”, heading for Phi Phi Islands,
came off course and hitting the Anemone Reef. She
sank within one our just a short distance from Anemone
Reef, luckily it was a perfect day with flat sea
and all 600 passengers were rescued by nearby boats.
Sitting upright on the sea floor, with a maximum
depth of 30 meters and the upper deck at 14 meters
she offers the perfect wreck dive for experienced
divers.
Phi Phi Islands
Phi Phi Islands are world famous for its stunning
limestone cliffs rising close to hundred meters
straight out of the ocean. Located two hours by
boat East of Phuket, they are on the limit to what
the Phuket day trip boats can offer. Despite the
distance, the voyage is well worth the effort for
beginners as well as experienced divers. The variety
of dives sites includes wall dives, coral gardens
and rugged rock formations with caves, swim-throughs
and overhangs.
